prada and pastries: marhcesi 1824
Sipping Ferrari Rosè at Marchesi 1824 while overlooking the beautiful Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II was a dream come true. While enjoying my long, slow Italian lunch, I remember thinking, “This must be a movie.”

During my time in Italy, I had the absolute pleasure of visiting Marchesi 1824, a 200-year-old pastry shop located in the heart of Milan, and right above Prada. Established in 1824, Marchesi 1814 is one of Milano’s oldest pastry shops best known for its selection of pastries, Panettone, Milanese Christmas desserts, and chocolates. Marchesi has become not only one of my favorite places that I have visited but one that I would recommend to others when traveling to Milano.

So, what is the correlation between Prada and Marchesi 1824? Like Fondazione Prada, it is owned by the Prada Group! This is where Prada meets Pastries. In 2014, the Prada Group purchased most of Marchesi 1824’s stake. This 200-year-old café is still standing with four locations. Might I add, it is delicious.

Located right above the men’s Prada store and right across from the original Prada store, it is the perfect location to treat yourself to Prada and pastries. Or even, enjoy a nice, slow lunch allowing you to take in the beauty of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.

Paired with my baked risotto, I ordered the Marchesi Yellow: a sponge cake with lemon cream and Sorrento lemon jelly covered in vanilla Bavarian cream coated with a yellow glaze and decorated with a Marchesi crown. This dessert was highly recommended by Stanley Tucci in his “Searching for Italy” TV series. It was so decadent and delicious— it melts in your mouth.

Marchesi 1824 just what I needed before I went shopping at some of the fashion houses. After all, what’s a good pastry without a pairing of Prada?
